In today's project we'll be making this eye catching wire wrap hoop earring tutorial. For the hoop earrings in the main image above, I used an 18-gauge dead soft wire for the hoop, with a top drilled rose quartz briolette, and niobium ear wire hooks. The hoop earrings in the main image have also been oxidize, given an antique finish, which i can explain in an other tutorial. These hoop earrings are so trendy now, and will make a prefect gift for a friend, mom or daughter.
- 2 x side drilled teardrop beads measuring approx approx 0.5 inch long
- 2 x 4 inch 20-gauge dead soft wire
- 2 x 3 inch 2.4mm ball chain
- Approx 40 inch 24-gauge dead soft wire
- 2 x 6 mm OD 20-gauge jumper rings
- 2 ear wires
- Wire Cutters
- Chain Nose Pliers
- Long Nose Pliers
- Nylon Jaw Pliers
- Ring Mandrel
Materials as per material list - you can change the size and shape of earrings as your prefer - there is not set rule for making these trendy gem earrings.
Let your imagination run wild!
Using the 2 x 4 inch 20-gauge dead soft wires - make a small loop on either side of each wire, the loops should be made in approx the middle of the long nose pliers. Then using the 24-gauge dead soft wire, start by wrapping three times around the wire with the loops. This will secure the wire, in order to add the ball chain.
Using one of the 3 inch ball chain pieces, wrap the wire around the ball chain and the 20-gauge wire - as indicated in the image above. Making sure to capture each bead of the ball chain with the wire.
Both wires should look like this at this point.
Using size 15 on the mandrel, bend the wires with the ball chain just created, around the mandrel. The ends of the wire should touch each other, forming the hoop of the earring.
Using the remainder of the 24-gauge wire, feed it through the teardrop bead, and secure, as indicated in image. Make a small loop at the top of the bead with the long nose pliers, this will be where the jumper ring will be put through. Start wrapping the wire down and around the bead, so that it looks like the image below. Finish off by bringing the wire up to the top of the bead, just below the loop. Wrap the wire two times around the wire just below the loop to secure. Trim excess wire.
Finished bead should look like this!
Wrap the second bead as the first bead - both beads should look like this!
Using the jumper ring, feed the jumper ring through the two loops of the earring hoop and the bead loop, this will attach the bead to the earring hoop. Do the same to the other earring hoop.
Using the ear wires, open the small hook of the ear wire and hook it through the two loops of the earring hoop. This will secure the ear wires to the earring hoops.
The finished product should be looking like this!
